Sweet Potato Turkey Chili

Sorry for the delay in posting this ya'll. Zachary took a fall and potentially may lose his sweet baby tooth earlier than expected. Boys. I think they truly feel they're invincible. Zachary actually told me he had wings. I love his imagination.

I do not like change in life. In food? Bring it. There's always a tweak, or additive you can add or remove. A meat you can sub with something else. And EVERY dessert is better with some chocolate or whipped cream!

I've had my fair share of chili. Some with Guinness, some with some seriously potent spiciness, and some even without meat. I love meaty chili. Yummmmmy. But I hadn't had any with sweet potato. It's fall, so I gotta see what happens right? I have four guinea pigs here that love to taste test. Abigail cannot wait until she's able. She reminds me daily.

I started with lots of veggies. A little corn, zucchini, onions, mushrooms, peppers, and then I saw apples sitting on the counter. Bravery folks. Sheer bravery. It could have made it insanely sweet alongside the sweet potatoes, but I went ahead and moved forward with hopeful anticipation. It's a bit hilarious to see how excited I get over food, and the creation of it. Everyone has something, and this is mine.

Here's what my gorgeously colored pot prior to the puree and cream. Ya'll. I could straight just eat this stuff. The heck with the soup.

Oh let's be serious. I wanna see how it all comes together.

Ingredient List:
3 sweet potatoes, baked and peeled
4 cups chicken broth
2 tbsp butter
3 carrots chopped
2 zucchini, chopped
1 package mushrooms, chopped
1 onion, minced
3 peppers (i used the pack with three colors because I'm festive. You do what you want!)
2-3 apples, peeled and chopped (granny smiths won't work here. they're too sour ya'll)
1- 1.5lbs ground turkey (you can use beef, sausage, or chicken, and even add shrimp. this is versatile!)
1-2 cups whipping cream
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/8 scant tsp cloves
1/2 tsp seasoned salt (or more depending on your taste)
1/2 tsp pepper (again, more if you like it hot. My hubby does not, so we kept it chill)

How we do it:

1. Blend together the cooked sweet potato and chicken broth. If you need to, do it in batches. Set aside.
2. In a large pot, melt the butter, add the turkey werkey (sorry couldn't help myself. It just comes naturally) and brown. Add the veggies and saute about 5 minutes, or until almost tender.
3. Add the puree to the pot. Stir. Let simmer about 20 minutes. Add cream, stir. Taste, and add more salt/pepper if needed.

This is fantastic over mashed potatoes, rice, or just in a bowl with a roll. Poet and didn't know it. Or maybe I did. It's up for debate.

Enjoy!
